the end is the beginning

I’m drawing a blank with words at the moment. Our wedding will be this Saturday. That’s just 4 days away and counting.

It’s supposed to start raining here in Los Angeles and rain through the weekend. While our wedding is indoors I’m just realizing that maybe I should have thought about a jacket or at least a sweater.

So instead of going on about ridiculous details, I’ll share a few photos from my bachelorette ride. Thankfully there wasn’t too much debauchery.  My dear friend Jannatha planned out a beautiful bike ride, picnic and wine tastings. It was perfect.

Oh and there was a cat. Adorable.

I’ll try and squeeze in another post before we’re off on our honeymoon (perhaps even a wedding sneak peak) but I promise even more exciting posts while I’m gone. I’ve enlisted some bloggers from here to all the way across the continent to brighten up Cute and Delicious for a few weeks.

LA Vegan Beer Fest

Posted by – 8 Nov ’10

This past Saturday was the first LA Vegan Beer Fest. We went with our dear friends Jannatha & Kyle. They’re beer fest pros.

Check out their beer mug beads! They also have some pretzel necklaces (which didn’t make it to this fest) for snacking while you drink.

alicia & baxter

Alicia and Baxter came along too. They were there to keep us in line. You might call them the law.

We got these handy little mugs for sampling the beers. At about 4 oz each, they were the perfect size to get to try all the beers while still getting to enjoy each one for a little bit.

My top picks of the day were the Duvel Green, the Solace from Firestone Walker and a special edition coffee beer from Speakeasy Brewery. I was totally in love with the coffee beer actually.

While I enjoy beer, I was even more excited about the food. With a ton of trucks, serving exclusively vegan snacks, I was ready to get my grub on.

We started with the lemongrass tofu bahn mi from Mandoline Grill. You can’t go wrong with a ban mi really, but Mandoline grills up their tofu just right. Super tasty.

seabirds tacos & taquitos

We drank some more beer. We got hungry again. This event went on for a few hours, so you have to try everything possible.

Next up was the jackfruit tofu taquitos and the beer battered avocado taco from Seabirds Truck. Holy crap. I’m still in awe that there’s a completely vegan food truck, let alone one that is better than half the restaurants in Los Angeles. Beer Battered Avocado Taco. Do I have to say more? Every word is delicious!

doomies

We also got a few things from Doomie’s, which we learned is finally back in action and opening a new location in Hollywood. Stoked!

I tried their sushi, which was amazing. Who knew Doomie’s made sushi? Anyway, it was fantastic: faux tuna and faux shrimp with cream cheese, all topped with that awesome sauce.

Shawn hung out with his buddies at the Frankenstand. We had a lot of franken dogs. My favorite is the witch.

When you drink a lot of tiny cups of beer, sometimes your pictures get a little silly.

sadness of an empty glass

When you run out of beer and have to go home it is very sad. All good things must come to an end though.

Off we rode into the sunset with Kyle & Jannatha on their sweet tandem bike.

If you want to see more, Shawn has tons more photos over at Shawn’s flickr. Check ‘em out.

Thanksgiving 2009

Posted by – 27 Nov ’09

I’m going to keep the chatting to a minimum and just show you a photo tour of our Thanksgiving this year. Enjoy!

It all started with a donut from Madeline Bistro.

The phillet no phish sandwich, Thanksgiving sandwich (which is pretty much all you could ever want from Thanksgiving), mashed potatoes and gravy.

Vanishing meal. Also consumed: biscuits & gravy, crepes filled with fruit. All amazing.

Visiting turkeys from Animal Acres. Luckily these guys will live long happy lives instead of being abused and murdered this Thanksgiving. Yeah, I said that.

Homemade pumpkin soy nog. My mom made this! I think that’s pretty awesome.

When making a pie, it is absolutely necessary to make a mess. It makes it taste better, I promise.

Best way to work up an appetite before Thanksgiving dinner. Okay so it was a rather leisurely ride to the beach. We were rewarded with a gorgeous sunset.

Brussels sprouts with capers. Oh how I love brussels sprouts.

Perfectly fluffy and wonderful mashed potatoes whipped up by Shawn. He also made fabulous gravy to go on top.

There’s that apple pie! All baked up with the infamous crumbly top. This is the last thing I stuffed in my face today.

Happy Thanksgiving! (p.s. Shawn does not like to smile in photos. He really is having a good time, don’t let the serious face fool you.)

Bicycle photos and Cinefamily nostalgia

Posted by – 7 May ’09

Just a quick update to let all you vegans know about some cool upcoming events that you won’t want to miss.

Pics or it didn't happen

First of all, if you’ve been missing the tasty decadence that was Doomie’s Home Cookin’ you have a chance this Saturday to bask in the glory days. Team Midnight Ridazz is hosting a photo show to raise money for Aids Life Cycle. The show will feature photos from Los Angeles artists (including my favorite Studiodrome) documenting local bike culture. I don’t know the entire roster but I know a few of the associated artists have really amazing photographs and they’ll be selling for dirt cheap. Not to mention, it’s all for a good cause. Besides that though, DOOMIE’S will be catering the event, so you can come and get a taste of their food if you never had the chance or just miss it like crazy.

Cinefamily at the Silent Movie Theater

Also, this Sunday, The Silent Movie Theater is having a rummage and bake sale. From their website:

Sunday, May 10th, from noon-5pm, is our First Annual Cinefamily Rummage and Bake Sale, a wonderful opportunity for all of you to come by and sift through (and purchase!) the various relics and oddities that have been cluttering the theater’s hallways, stockrooms, and storage spaces since we opened. Items range from the typical (audio and film equipment) to the quaint (vintage books and posters) to the NSFW (seriously, I can’t even print it here). Come for the delicious treats, stay to pick out something special from our magical stockpile of weirdness. You might even find something for your mom (she mentioned you don’t call enough).

Besides the fact that this is a really cool place and I’m sure they’re going to have amazing things for sale, there will be cupcakes from Vegan Bake Sale for you to enjoy while you browse. The Silent Movie Theater is one of my favorite theaters in Los Angeles and has some really fantastic screenings. This theater is one of the few places you can see rare films in amazing condition and obscurities that will blow your mind. Despite the name, not all the movies are silent, but they do have a handful of those as well. They’re also a non-profit so all the proceeds go to obtaining even more awesome films to share. If you can’t make it to this sale, you should still check out the theater if you have a chance.

The Silent Movie Theater is located at 611 N Fairfax Avenue, Los Angeles, 90036

Anyway, I’ll be there! You should be there! We should all be there! See you this weekend.
