the last days of Pure Luck

tofu pesto sandwich & soup
What do you do when your favorite restaurant and eternal hang out decides to up and close on you? You eat there as many times as humanly possible before they shut the doors for good.

Pure Luck has been a staple in Shawn and my life together since we started dating. Not only do we eat there at least once a week, it’s always the spot we pick when meeting friends. We had birthday celebrations there. We shot part of our movie there. Every time we go we run into people we know. Totally integral place in our life. And it’s closing. Ugh.

To commemorate, here are some of our last meals in all the glory.
Todd's BBQ sandwich

BBQ sandwich made with jackfruit “carnitas”

carnitas torta

The torta!

Kristen's carnitas wrap

My favorite, Kristen’s carnitas wrap. Jackfruit carnitas, avocado, tomato, lettuce and ceasar dressing.

big decisions
what to have

At the end, it became difficult to choose what to get as you didn’t want to miss something.

rosemary fries
pickle chips

Even though potato pals are by far the favorite side, we branched out and got some of the others: rosemary fries & pickle chips. Amazing, as always.

shawn & sandwich
alix and wrap

So good.

spicy fried spring rolls

And let’s not forget the spring rolls. Spicy & fried.

tofu pesto sandwich
kyle & shawn
tofu pesto sandwich

On the last day, we all ordered the tofu pesto sandwich with avocado. With potato pals.

heavy metal friday
This is pretty much how we feel about Pure Luck closing too.

Even just looking at these photos makes me pretty sad. Every meal we had at the end was superb. At least they went out on a high note.

We’ve had so many adventures there I can’t imagine not having it around. You should check out Shawn’s recap of some of our history there.

<3 Pure Luck forever & ever.

mmm fried pickles!! I’ve heard of jackfruit, but haven’t tried it yet. That looks so good I guess I’ll have to!

I am very sad about Pure Luck’s closing. I took a ton of photos of my last meal there on Saturday with a friend – time to put up a photo essay!

    *sniff*

Why are they closing? greener pastures I hope.

  4. Ali says:

I asked some of the staff on Friday if there is any hope of them re-opening elsewhere, and they said they were going to be working on a new “project” that would have Pure Luck items on the menu….fingers crossed it all works out!

Yesterday was supposed to be their last day, but apparently the owner changed his mind and they’ll be open a little while longer! Good news, just wish we had a solid date.

It is possible that they will be open this weekend but there is no guarantee.

Random! Swear I’m not a stalker.. just a lurker! Was in LA this weekend and ate at Pure Luck on Saturday afternoon. Thought I recognized you and your husband from your blog. Confirmed!

Looks like you had a proper feast — I tried the carnita wrap myself. So sorry you are losing one of your treasured dining spots!

how funny. you should have said hi!

it’s awesome that you got a chance to eat at pure luck before it closed, especially if you were just visiting.

    • Sarah S. says:

I’ll at least say hi on your blog a little more often! 😉

Certainly was a treat to try Pure Luck, even though it will just be that once!

  7. For part of my last supper there I had potato pals for the first time–so freaking good. I’m so pumped they are doing 3 more days this week. I’m going tonight. This is such a giant loss.

  8. That’s so sad! I get so upset when a favourite place of mine closes…do you know why? sometimes for me thats the killer…not knowing…

eat your heart out lol and make more memories!
