dress dying

I bought this lovely vintage dress a few months back but have never had the occasion to wear it. It was so pretty but also kind of a drab white. Finally with a special event to go to, I decided to dye it. Originally I thought green would be best but I got nervous and went with brown. I sort of wish I’d stuck with green since I’m by no means an expert dress dyer, and the brown wasn’t so rich as I’d hoped. It turned out nice though overall and helped me blend in the natural setting.

  1. pretty! How did you do it so the middle part didn’t get dyed?

I think the color turned out nice even if it’s not what you were aiming for.

What kind of fabric is the dress? Did you use RIT dye or Procion? I dyed some cotton shirts a long time ago with RIT and I think the key is to use very hot water for a long time. I think the instructions mostly talk about dying in a washing machine or a pot on a stove but I used a plastic tub in the microwave and just zapped it every few minutes to keep the water hot.

So pretty! I for one still support the decision to go brown 🙂

It’s beautiful! The colour isn’t too brown, it looks almost pinky. Don’t second guess it, it looks gorgeous.
