Ashes of a Cowboy
I’m excited to share that Shawn has launched a kickstarter for his newest short film ASHES OF A COWBOY. He’s been working like crazy on this project but needs some help getting it off the ground. To quote from his site:
Lately I’ve been making my films more experimental, lower profile and lower budget. For once I want to make something with a more traditional narrative and I need your help. I’d love to make a movie that my friends and family will really care about. This movie is all about great acting and telling a sincere story. For a low budget movie this will take me a lot of time, preparation, and resources.
We’ve been funding our own film projects for years and this is the first time we’ve reached out to the the community for support. If you have a few spare dollars to contribute to independent film we would be forever grateful. Even if you can’t donate, sharing the project with friends helps get the word out.

after suicide
I’ve been trying to share more short films here, it’s nothing official but maybe it will be a Friday thing. Now that I’ve said that it probably won’t be.
In any case, this film is one that is near and dear to my heart. In part because Shawn made it, but beyond that, because it addresses some ideas about depression and suicide that I think are often overlooked.
When I first watched After Suicide, it hit me like a ton of bricks. It’s not often that I have such an intense reaction to short films, but the subject really resonated for me and I couldn’t quite shake it. In so many films suicide is romanticized or in some cases just glossed over. It’s such a dark subject, it’s easy to understand why it’s so hard to address. This film takes a personal look at how suicide effects those left behind.

After Suicide is the antithesis of the viral video; it’s thoughtful, emotional and lingering. I hope you’ll take a moment to watch it and share your thoughts.
CREEPER

I’m pleased to share one of Shawn’s most recent short films, CREEPER, which premiered at AFI Fest last November. I was immediately intrigued from the moment he first told me the idea for this film, inspired by the announcement of the Google glasses. I am a big fan of social media, obviously I have this blog, but I worry things are going in a dangerous direction and CREEPER really illustrates that darkness.
a peek into Dr. Kleinensteinen

Why hello dear readers. I’ve been strangely absent from the internet recently. The past few weeks have been painfully busy (at work, how boring) and I’ve needed every free moment for mental recovery rather than fun things like blogging.
As a peace offering, or a special treat, I offer you this lovely video made long ago by my dear husband. It’s a deleted scene from Dr. Kleinenensteinen, a film he made (that I’m hoping he’ll share with the world someday) way back when before we knew each other.
Sometime soon, when I get around to giving a little tour of our home, you’ll see bits and pieces from this project all around. We live in fantasy land.
Hope everyone has a wonderful long weekend filled with end of summer goodness.
