That’s Mochi, one of our dear cats, in case you hadn’t met her before. The look on her face is sort of how I’ve been feeling lately after spending hours in front of the computer everyday, maxing out my mental capacity. Things are in transition at the moment in some ways and in some ways they are the same as they’ve always been. I feel like this blog has been neglected somewhat despite my best efforts.

I thought I’d do something a little fun and different. Is there anything you’ve ever wanted to ask me (or Shawn perhaps)? Well here is your chance…anything you want to know, I’ll be answering. Ok, within reason. I do have some decency you know.

So go for it! Ask away here in the comments, or you can email me at veganbakesale@gmail.com and I’ll respond here on the blog.

In other news, we’ve been gearing up for October little by little, watching lots of movies in our spare time (which for me, usually means while I work in the evenings). We even started a little club to chronicle the films we see. It makes my heart happy.

This weekend was filled with many tiny adventures. We never really got around to making plans to do something extravagant so we just did a bunch of things. Mostly I was glad to have the extra day to let my mind breath and clarify some things for myself. Worked on a few little projects and spent too much money on odds and ends.

I haven’t been taking many photos lately and was happy to get lost taking these flower shots around town.

Sometimes, when you can’t get out of town, you can still go camping..and bring the cats along.

Hope you all had a lovely holiday weekend.

summer time

It finally feels a little like summer today and it’s making me think of all the things I want to do while the sun is shining. Mostly I’ve been enjoying gloomy mornings, but a little warmth reminded me that there are lots of summer events not to be missed.

Here are some of the things I want to do this summer:

  1. Go camping, preferably in the Sequoias
  2. Have more picnic lunches
  3. Go to a drive in movie, as I’ve still never been, ever
  4. Ride my bike more (oops someone needs to get back in cycling shape)
  5. Learn an awesome aerial routine
  6. Go to one of the Cinespia cemetery screenings
  7. Go on some some cool hikes

So basically, movies & outdoors (and circus).

What are your summer plans?

circus time
So here is something you may not know about me…I used to be in a circus.

It’s sort of hard to explain. I spent most of my childhood summers at a camp that, amongst other crazy activities, had a circus. The kids would rehearse every day and then perform every few weeks.

When I first started, at 10, I was part of the simpler performances: globe (walking on a giant ball), trick bike, double dutch jump rope. Every time I auditioned, my dream was always to be in the aerial acts. I wanted to be on of the performers who would hang from ropes and fly on trapezes just like in Cirque du Soleil.

Once I finally made it, I did everything, from single trapeze, to rope, to cloud swing, to flying trapeze. I was fearless and I loved it. I hung upside down, tied knots around myself and swung from the rafters.

At the end of every summer I would go home wishing I could continue. I tried to convince my mom that we should hang a trapeze in our back yard. Circus fun was always relegated to the summertime. And over time my circus dreams faded. Until now… (more…)
