Shoes!

Dear friends, I know I promised you cookies, but I’m having a major shoe crisis. I need your help.

I can’t decide on shoes for our wedding. I’ve already gone horribly astray. I am really quite a bad shopper, especially when it comes to shoes.

It all started when I bought the grey shoes above. I really like them. I thought I’d add a little lace or something. But, these lovelies were politely vetoed for the heels were too high. It’s true, for a girl who rarely wears heels, it’s not the best idea for me to be prancing about in such things (although I love the shoes, and will save them for another occasion since they were inexpensive).

Then I found these beautiful olsenHaus wedge mary janes and fell in love. They of course are much more than I want to spend. I’m also not sure why I am obsessed with grey shoes. I’m pretty sure they don’t go with my dress. Gosh they’re so pretty though.

Next I took a trip to Humanitaire to see what they had left in stock (they’re closing their doors and selling everything at a major discount so I suggest you check out what they have post haste). Again I was plagued with the problem of the too high heel. I loved these black Neuaura Sparrow platforms. Is it appropriate to wear black shoes under a wedding dress?

Then, in a moment of desperation, I bought these horrendous things. I thought I’d take off the bow and replace it with some extra lace from my dress. They’re so darn ugly though and hideously bright white. Back to the store they go.

What I’d really like is something like these. Something old-timey. I can’t find anything suitable though. I really don’t want the ones with lace windows that keep popping up in my various searches. I keep finding ones that would work, but they’re always black. Something seems odd about wearing black shoes under my off-white dress.

So friends, shoe enthusiasts, I’m asking for your help. I’m taking suggestions and recommendations. I have only three requirements.

  1. They can’t have a super high heel. Approximately 2 – 3 inches is probably about right.
  2. They must be vegan friendly. Fabric is great or there are always synthetics.
  3. They should in some way match these fabrics (since there isn’t a completed dress to show you).

If you find something for me I will do something really nice for you. I promise.

Have you looked at Beyond Skin? These beauties look like they might be to your tastes: http://www.beyondskin.co.uk/VIP-LOUNGE/Bertie-Cream-Faux-Leather/prod_37.html

I can’t see any grey shoes there but they do have some lovely coloured options. Personally I love white wedding dresses with coloured shoes 🙂

Those Mary Jane’s are adorable, but I hear you on not wanting to break the bank! (I’m currently obsessed with gray shoes too. I really want some gray boots…) I’ll keep my eyes out and let you know if I come across anything that might fit the bill for you. The perfect shoes are out there, and you’ll definitely find them!

Vegetarian Shoes in the UK has their “Vivain” shoe. Not sure if that fits your liking, but they are on sale: http://www.vegetarian-shoes.co.uk/womens_shoes/vivian_shoe_white_/11518_p.html

The mary janes are really nice and totally match your style, I think they’re really cute, but yeah, way expensive. Then I saw those that Jo linked to above… and they look perfect! Nice mix between a cute/sexy heel while having some of that same old timey feel as the boots you show above.

I just looked at modcloth.com and they have a few options I think would be cute for you and appropriate for your dress. Not all their shoes are vegan, but many of them are, so it’s worth looking there. I don’t know what size you wear (I’m a 6), but I have a pair of bronze wedges that MAYBE would work? I haven’t looked at them since I wore them the one time as a bridesmaid 4 years ago, so I’m not certain. If you check out modcloth and want to bounce some ideas off me, I’d love to help! I do love shoes. 🙂

  6. I checked my normal shoe shopping sites and didn’t find anything to contribute I’m afraid. I’ll keep my eye out though. I also really like the pair Jo suggested above! Very cute!

White shoes have always reminded me of nurses shoes, so I totally understand your lean towards grey. I’d vote the black pair, or even a brighter color if you like… do you have a color palette you’re working with?
also- madden girl shoes are nearly always vegan and really affordable, melissa makes amazing heels from recycled pastic, and if heels aren’t your thing try a cute bootie or oxford with a kitten heel instead, you’ll be able to dance all night long without so much as a wince.
I really recommend that you buy a pair of shoes you LOVE in a color you’d wear any time, and don’t just settle for something you think is wedding appropriate 🙂 there are no rules!

    Hey,
My cousin had a vintage wedding dress too and she did a Midsummer Night’s Dream theme to it too, she wore these shoes which I think would be perfect for your dress too!
