kitchen mini makeover

So I did a little bit of updating in our kitchen. Even though it is just some paint and new shelves it makes all the difference. Though I’ve always loved our kitchen, it felt a little dreary and cramped. A fresh coat of white paint and built in shelves changed everything. Here are some before and after shots.

New paint covers up the ugly spots where our drawers were repaired. We had that problem where many of the cabinets didn’t close all the way, and I fixed those as well.

The new shelves make all the appliances easily accessible. Before, everything felt like it was on top of something else.

So maybe the top shelf is a little too high, but it’s still a vast improvement.

Here is the one during shot I have, just to show the difference between the previous paint and the white.

I feel like there is so much more space, even though it’s the same room. I still need to hang a little bit of decor, the Clowns poster will probably go back up.

Hooray! Happy, pretty kitchen.

    I. Love. Your. Cabinets.

The update looks wonderful, too. So pretty!

  2. Your kitchen looks great, Alix! I absolutely love the vertical storage. My boy and I recently moved into a loft with very little cabinet space, and vertical storage has been our solution, too. Along with one of those shelves that is much too high to reach 😉 The solution? We keep a step ladder from IKEA within arms reach.

I also have that Ikea step ladder in the kitchen because I can’t reach anything past the front of the second shelf. I meant to include it, since I repainted it as well but didn’t have a great photo. Our cabinets are actually so high that even with the step ladder I can’t reach the top shelf (and have to stand on the counters). Mostly earthquake supplies get stored up there.

It looks really pretty. It’s so nice to be able to group your appliances all together. I did the same thing in my kitchen and it really makes it feel like I’m working in a real restaurant kitchen. It’s also nice to display some of those items you worked hard to pay for!

My husband never understands why I always want to paint rental apartments from off-white to white. This is why! Fresher and looks like more space.

Also, I think I have that same bunnies ceramic. Do you use it to hold your rings?

      yes i do!

since it’s a rental we weren’t originally going to paint but the weird yellow color made me crazy. i’m very happy with the white, makes if feel so much cleaner.

Definitely adds a nice freshness to the space. My kitchen is the same drab cream color. I’ve been wanting to paint it, but for whatever reason I wasn’t leaning towards white. But now after seeing this, I think I’m gonna go for it. I still need to put more shelves up because I want to move some appliances off the counter. If you stop by for donuts later, maybe you can check it out and give me some ideas.

What a great inspiration: my studio, which is FULL of natural light, looks drab in its current color. It’s nearly the same as your “before” color! I think this post will convince my boyfriend to help me paint the room white 🙂

I love these! I’ve been so behind on my reader and blog the last month but I think it’s really important to do refreshers like this once and a while. We just rearranged our office and even though it’s the same space it feels like we have so much more room and like it’s more efficient!
