Mabel
Last weekend little Mabel was adopted. I’m so happy she found a forever home, but since she was with us for quite some time seeing her go was bittersweet. I gave her a lot of special attention because she couldn’t hang out with the other cats, and her little personality really grew on me. Not to mention she was uber cute.
The whole experience of fostering her started with a stressful, heartbreaking situation and I’m really thankful that I was able to intervene before an almost certain death at the shelter. Even though Mabel was the sweetest little dear that just wanted to hang out and cuddle all the time, she was still another responsibility. It’s funny how you get used to the things that seem difficult though and even grow to sort of enjoy them.
Here’s to Mabel, darling rescue kitty with a happy life at new home ahead of her.
Summer
Summer has rolled around and it signals a change of pace. The world is out looking for fun. I spent some time crafting this weekend with some lady friends. Made progress on a piece of knitting I’m working on, unplugged for the most part and gossiped just a little. We also went to a party with a bounce house and jumped until we were dizzy.
We also have a new foster cat. Her name is Mabel and she’s a darling black kitty. She wants nothing more than for someone to spend some time snuggling with her. If you’re interested in giving her a forever home please let me know.
I spent my Sunday with the Kitt Crusaders at one of their adoption events. Amazingly at least three darling cats got adopted while I was there. Of course there are still plenty more. Like these little kittens. I just wish more people cared as much as some of these people do. If everyone just did a little bit it would make a huge difference. By the way, you can donate to Kitt Crusaders, who is rescuing cats from one of the highest kill shelters in Los Angeles by donating here.
kittens!
You may recall a few weeks ago I posted photos of some adorable black cats and kittens. I discovered they were living under a neighbor’s apartment, and while they seemed to be in good health, I knew something had to be done. This past week, I caught them all, had them fixed and vaccinated and now they’re looking for homes.
Let me introduce you! There are two sweet black cats, one boy and one girl. Despite growing up outside, they are really affectionate and love to snuggle and be petted. They often purr when they eat and then will come and nuzzle me afterwards. They’re also very playful and love to do kitten things: playing with toy mice, chasing tails, all the cute stuff.
I don’t have an exact age for them but I’m guessing 3-4 months old (this is a total guess by the way) but they are definitely under 6 months. They’ve been using a litter box all on their own, natural instinct and all. They’re both fixed and vaccinated as I mentioned, they’ve also been tested negative for FIV and FeLV. Plus, they’re microchipped just in case.
Luckily, their little grey sister is going to go live with my mom. Her name is Cami. She is the most timid of the bunch and only half the size of her brother and sister. She was also the hardest of all to catch.
If you’re interested in either of these darlings, and live in the Los Angeles area, please email me at veganbakesale at gmail (or by clicking the email me link on the sidebar).
Last, but certainly not least, if you’d like to do something to help feral and abandoned cats please consider donating to one of the many organizations who help with adoptions as well as sterilization. I recommend Fixnation and Best Friends Animal Society.
UPDATE Both little Cami and her brother went to their new homes this weekend. Hooray! And the little girl? Well, read more here.
I thought I’d post some of the instagram photos I’d taken over the past few weeks in honor of the fact that I now have my own camera to use, and won’t have to rely on my phone (which is about to bite the dust anyway) or borrowing Shawn’s camera for quick snapshots. Not to mention, they’re fun and show what I’ve been up to recently. (more…)
Hodge-podge
I have so much to tell you! I’ve been completely consumed with crafting for holiday presents. I’m attempting to wrap all my gifts in reusable gift bags this year. That means that even for the gifts I’m not making, there’s still a bit of work put in to each one. The worst part is, I can’t even show off the gifts I’ve made yet in case any of the recipients read this blog. Don’t worry though, I’ll have some recaps after the holidays with some reviews and such.
Besides the hours devoted to sewing and the like, I do have some exciting news. Cupcakes from Vegan Bake Sale are now available at Meet Market in Silverlake. I just delivered the first order of Cookies & Cream, Peanut Butter and Pumpkin Spice cupcakes. Go get some! It will probably be your last chance before the holidays.
This year is going to be my cats’ first Christmas living with us. They’re loving all the boxes they get to play with (and a few catnip treats). It’s like cardboard box heaven for them. We adopted Meeme and Mochi on January 3rd of this year and they make me happy every single day. Seriously. I love them so much. Part of the reason I want to bring this up is that LA animal services is offering 50% off adoption fees for the holidays. Not that the fees are even very high to begin with, but it’s just that much more incentive to open your home and heart to one of these animals in need. If you’re considering getting an animal this year, I urge you to turn to the public animal shelters as these are usually the animals at highest risk of being put down. Not to mention they make it extremely easy for you to adopt.
Oh there’s so much more to say, but it will have to wait a little while still. Till then…
