weetzie

weetzie_4weetzie_3weetzie_1 I can’t believe it’s been a year since we rescued Weetzie Cat. It feels like we’ve had her all along. I can tell she’ll forever be my little baby kitten. It took the better part of the year for all the cats to get adjusted to each other. Mochi still isn’t a fan of Weetzie at all, but usually ignores her unless Weetzie is having too much fun running around the apartment. Weetzie has picked out lots of hiding places where the other cats won’t go so she has her own little territories. Her favorites are on top of the fridge, in the back of one of the kitchen cabinets and her little suitcase bed. She loves that little bed. She sleeps there every night. Sometimes I wish she had a buddy cat to cuddle and play with but I know that wouldn’t go over well with the other lady cats (and 4 cats would officially be a lot of cats).

Weetzie makes me happy every day and I’m so glad we found her and that she’s a part of our lives.

Mabel

Mabel

Last weekend little Mabel was adopted. I’m so happy she found a forever home, but since she was with us for quite some time seeing her go was bittersweet. I gave her a lot of special attention because she couldn’t hang out with the other cats, and her little personality really grew on me. Not to mention she was uber cute.

The whole experience of fostering her started with a stressful, heartbreaking situation and I’m really thankful that I was able to intervene before an almost certain death at the shelter. Even though Mabel was the sweetest little dear that just wanted to hang out and cuddle all the time, she was still another responsibility. It’s funny how you get used to the things that seem difficult though and even grow to sort of enjoy them.

Here’s to Mabel, darling rescue kitty with a happy life at new home ahead of her.

Summer

craft Summer has rolled around and it signals a change of pace. The world is out looking for fun. I spent some time crafting this weekend with some lady friends. Made progress on a piece of knitting I’m working on, unplugged for the most part and gossiped just a little. We also went to a party with a bounce house and jumped until we were dizzy.

mabelWe also have a new foster cat. Her name is Mabel and she’s a darling black kitty. She wants nothing more than for someone to spend some time snuggling with her. If you’re interested in giving her a forever home please let me know.

kittens I spent my Sunday with the Kitt Crusaders at one of their adoption events. Amazingly at least three darling cats got adopted while I was there. Of course there are still plenty more. Like these little kittens. I just wish more people cared as much as some of these people do. If everyone just did a little bit it would make a huge difference. By the way, you can donate to Kitt Crusaders, who is rescuing cats from one of the highest kill shelters in Los Angeles by donating here.

laurel beginnings

colette_laurel_ 221 colette_laurel_ 220 colette_laurel_ 219 After much dressmaking debate, I settled on making the Laurel from Colette patterns. It was my first time printing a pdf pattern at home actually. The good thing about it is I’ve already got a fairly sturdy pattern for the next time I’d like to make the dress (which will probably be soon) and of course, I was able to get it immediately, without a trip to the store. It did take awhile to cut and paste together but it wasn’t too bad overall.

The dress is by far the simplest thing I’ve made in awhile. I’ve got the basic construction done, and am in the process of adding a few alterations and embellishments.

In other news, after a new set of paint samples we’ve finally decided on a color for the living room. I can’t wait to get painting. Unfortunately, some other repairs are going on in our apartment building so it will probably have to wait a few more weeks. It’s really for the best, since I have several projects going at once already. It will be nice when I’m finishing some of them instead of just starting.

A rare moment of Mochi not minding Weetzie.

cat treats

It’s the time of year when everyone is making wish lists and gift guides and I swear it’s catching. When I think about such things though, my mind immediately goes to fancy things I’d like to get for my cats. Which possibly means I’m a crazy person. In any case, I thought I’d share some of my favorite, sometimes extravagant, cat presents I’ve been fawning over.

1. I know Meeme would go nuts over this crocheted jellyfish cat toy.

2. This mid-century styled cat furniture looks nice enough to double as regular furniture.

3. I’m really into this cat teepee but would probably make my own version.

4. This is the nicest looking cat tree ever. I’m not sure who came up with the idea to cover cat trees in the ugliest carpet but we collectively need to put a stop to it. Let’s start here.

5. And perhaps something to show off your cat love like this crazy cat sweater.
